Communications Manager

Description
CAE seeks a Communications Manager. This is a unique opportunity to join an organization committed to education reform. The Communications Manager is responsible for managing and providing content for public and press outreach, creating/supporting the development of CAE brochures and publications, supporting the marketing of educational support services, and maintaining CAE’s on-line presence, including its website and social media.

CAE has a myriad of direct service teaching and learning initiatives and public policy and advocacy efforts. It is the job of the Communications Manager to help link the general public, the education and political community to this work, through CAE’s website, email communications, social media, print materials and PR.

Media Relations
  • Write, edit, and issue press releases for programs and public policy/advocacy.
  • Coordinate the release of reports, parent guides, public statements and other CAE materials.
  • Develop and pitch stories related to all aspects of CAE’s work.
  • Identify opportunities to promote Executive Director as spokesman and thought leader.
  • Develop and maintain media contacts and relationships.
  • Create press packets and media kits.
  • Coordinate activity between CAE and media, including media events and regular press requests.
  • Collect, organize, and make available photographs and other media using our content management system.
  • Create and maintain archive of press clippings and other media.

Marketing

  • Develop marketing strategies/plans and branding for CAE services and programs including campaigns for new and existing initiatives.
  • Manage the development and distribution of promotional materials for the marketing of comprehensive in-school and after-school arts services including logos, taglines, branded print collateral, promotional items, and original marketing copy.

Public Awareness, Social Media, Website

  • Draft and coordinate email blasts, newsletters, and other publications.
  • Post events and updates onto blogs, Facebook, Twitter, online calendars, and outside event listings.
  • Drive CAE’s social media efforts, and improve online relationships with constituents and other organizations. Maintain a social media calendar of potential Facebook updates and Tweets, e.g., Arts Advocacy Day, World Dance Day.
  • Assist in constituent outreach and retention through email communications.
  • In conjunction with Director of Technology, manage website content, including home page headlines, news stories, and pages about CAE, work with colleagues to make sure their content is up to date.
  • Manage multimedia resources (webinars, video, and podcasts), and regularly develop more content with committees, CAE staff, and public affairs consultants.
Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in public relations, marketing, journalism or in a communications related capacity with a demonstrated effectiveness in generating publicity, promoting services and leading strategic communications efforts.
  • A real interest in public education practices, arts education, policy and advocacy.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to take the necessary initiatives to assure that schedules and campaign objectives are met.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent resourcefulness, execution, and follow through.
  • Comfortable under pressure, with tight deadlines and working in a highly participatory and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with online communications and social media.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of New York City's arts and education communities.
  • Experience at an arts organization, K-12 educational institution, government office/agency, or political campaign.
  • Knowledge of HTML, photo editing, and/or publication production.
  • Video or audio production experience.

Organization Intern

Description

The Center for Arts Education (CAE) is seeking an intern to assist in the daily operations of the organization.

An intern at The Center for Arts Education will have the unique opportunity to engage in a variety of individual and team projects, including CAE’s programmatic work, research projects, outreach efforts (including social media), fundraising activities, and more, depending on the needs of the organization and interests of the intern. Responsibilities will range from communicating with elected officials and school personnel to assisting with events to organizing and recording data. As a member of the CAE team, an intern will attend all full staff meetings, develop valuable workplace skills, and gain knowledge of the nonprofit sector and issues surrounding arts education.

Candidate must be comfortable working as part of a team and have computer proficiency, strong communication and organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail. Interest and experience in arts and/or education is an advantage.

School credit may be arranged. Commitment of 15-20 hours per week; schedule is flexible.

Teaching and Learning Internships 2011-2012

Description

The Center for Arts Education (CAE) is seeking interns for its Teaching and Learning Department beginning in mid-September through late May. Interns work closely with department staff helping to coordinate, facilitate and document multiple aspects of CAE’s teaching and learning flagship programs, including in-school and afterschool teaching artist residencies, parent engagement activities, conferences, trainings and professional development workshops, school visits and student activities. Strong work ethic and administrative skills, attention to detail, ability to handle various projects simultaneously, and a passion for working with and on behalf young people in the arts is required. Academic credit is provided if applicable. Interns must be available to work 15-20 hours a week.

Interns will be hired to work directly with one of the following programs:

Career Development Program (CDP) offers opportunities for high school students and educators to participate in school-to-career activities in the arts and creative sector.

Parents As Arts Partners Program (PAAP) engages parents and families in the school community through hands-on, interactive arts education activities that build parents’ understanding about the importance of the arts.

School Arts Support Initiative (SASI) is dedicated to transforming middle schools that have little or no arts education into arts-rich schools.
