Advocacy

The Center for Arts Education (CAE) is campaigning to restore a quality arts education for every child in every school in New York City. We help parents become advocates for arts in their children’s education—in their homes, at their schools, and at every level of government. We also work to educate policymakers and the public about the need for arts education as an essential part of a well-rounded education and an essential contributor to children’s health and well-being.

Our children are being denied the well-rounded education to which they are entitled

National surveys of public schools point to a diminishing of time spent on arts education since the enactment of the No Child Left Behind Act
  • In New York City, nearly 30 percent of public schools do not have an arts teacher on staff
  • Only 8 percent of New York City elementary schools provide the arts education that children are entitled to
  • Arts education is mandated by state education law
