2008-2009 PARENTS AS ARTS PARTNERS GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS

ELIGIBILITY
& FUNDING PRIORITY

K–12 New York City public schools that have never received funding from CAE are eligible to apply for the 2008-2009 PAAP program — including NYCDOE-approved charter schools. Organizations formerly funded by CAE are eligible to partner with applicant schools again this year.

Each school may only submit one application. Subdivisions of larger school communities (such as mini-schools, academies, or houses) are not eligible to apply independently of the larger school entity.

Schools that have received CAE funding in the past are not eligible for the 2008-2009 PAAP grant. Not sure if your school is eligible to apply? View the full list of CAE Funded Schools to be sure.

Partnering organizations may partner with more than one school. Nonetheless, CAE expects that partnering organizations will customize their services to the particular needs of each school.

FUNDING REQUIREMENTS

  • The PAAP program must directly engage parents and/or families in hands-on, interactive arts education activities that build parents’ understanding of the importance of the arts.
  • The PAAP Program must connect to the school’s arts education program. For example, activities for parents may be related in theme and/or content to a third grade English Language Arts unit that reinforces writing skills through theater (arts integration);
    or to a tenth grade Visual Art unit on the creation of mixed-media self-portraits (arts instruction).
    • TIP: Refer to the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP)–or equivalent document–to find out about your school’s goals in the area of arts education. Then see what kinds of arts programs exist in your school to support those goals.
    • TIP: Refer to the NYC Department of Education’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts– Grades PreK-12, by visiting its website. Simply select a field of interest (Dance, Music, Theater or Visual Arts) and click on the “curriculum” link.
  • At least one PAAP activity in your program must address at least one of the NYS
    Learning Standards for the Arts:
    • Arts Standard #1: Creating, Performing, and Participating in the Arts
    • Arts Standard #2: Knowing and Using Arts Materials and Resources
    • Arts Standard #3: Responding to and Analyzing Works of Art
    • Arts Standard #4: Understanding the Cultural Contributions of the Arts

  • At least one PAAP activity in your program must address only NYS Learning Standard #1 for Career Development & Occupational Studies (CDOS), known as Career Development, by incorporating a brief presentation by a teaching artist or arts administrator about his/her career path.
  • The PAAP program must be designed in collaboration with up to three arts organization(s), community-based organization(s), and/or cultural institution(s), known as the “partnering organization(s).” Schools may build upon existing collaborations or form new collaborations. At least one-third of the grant funds ($1,000) must be allocated to the partnering organization(s). CAE defines partnering organizations as those that are paid out of PAAP program grant funds for program services redered.
  • The PAAP program must provide experience with and/or information about New
    York City’s arts and cultural community     beyond the activities facilitated by the partnering organization(s).
  • The proposed PAAP program budget must be in accordance with Program Budget Guidelines in PART II: Section E of Grant Guidelines & Application.
