Guild (MOG)
PS 95 Q, recently declared
a historical landmark, is an elementary school serving a multi-cultural
population in the Jamaica area of Queens. Partnering with York College
and the Queens Historical Society, PS 95 Q has developed a program
entitled “Museum in a School”. Targeting the second and fourth grades,
this partnership provides students and parents with the opportunity
to explore their community and various cultural institutions. PS
95 Q is partnering with MOG to build students’ awareness of careers
in the arts and arts-related industries.

Partnering with Queens
Museum of Art and Earsay
PS 217 Q is a Title
I elementary school in Jamaica, Queens partnering with Queens Museum
of Art and EarSay. Its program encourages students and the school
community to question what it means to “feel at home”. A series
of arts activities to explore neighborhood and personal cultural
histories includes: museum visits; personal dictionaries; neighborhood
history/art walks; interviews of family members and community members;
and, the creation of original theater pieces based on those interviews.
Through PS 217 Q’s partnership program, teachers and teaching artists
will develop arts-based curriculum, which will be turn-keyed through
after-school staff development and in-class teacher/artist workshops.
