Promising
Practices
Book

In May 2000, The Center
for Arts Education released its first major publication, Promising
Practices: The Arts and School Improvement
, a book focusing
on arts education in the New York City public schools. The book
profiles 9 of the 81 CAE-funded public schools that have collaborated
closely with their cultural organizations to create exemplary arts
education partnerships designed specifically for their school and
community. Captured in the voices of teachers and principals, the
9 case studies demonstrate effective arts education practices, from
integrating the arts into other subject areas to dedicating the
necessary time for professional development. The book also contains
a summary of all 81 partnership programs funded by the CAE. This
publication was funded in part by the United
Federation of Teachers’ Teacher Center
.
