Without dance, theater and art classes at school, I know I wouldn’t be as well versed and familiar with myself as I am. In the theater community (high school theater, dance studios, even the Broadway community), there is a real sense of support and nurturing. As a child, theater taught me how to let go of my inhibitions and the fear of expressing my feelings. I still wish I’d taken more art classes though. Growing up, I used to do these ink drawings; they began as doodles, but now I elaborate on them and have turned them into full-scale pieces. Drawing really relaxes me, and I love being able to pour my time and energy into a project that, later on, I can look at up on my wall. Sutton Foster was born in Statesboro, Georgia and attended high school in Troy, Michigan. She hit Broadway in 2002 catching the spotlight as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie (Foster won the Tony Award that year for Best Actress in a Musical). Her Broadway credits include: Annie, Funny Girl, Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone and Young Frankenstein. |
