The 2007 Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship Winners Announced
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 11, 2007, New York, NY – The Center for Arts Education (CAE), the leading voice in restoring and revitalizing the arts in New York City public schools, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship Program. Six outstanding participants from CAE’s Career Development Program (CDP) will receive $3,000 toward their post-secondary education in the arts.
The Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship recognizes outstanding participants of the Career Development Program who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts. “These six students have displayed outstanding enthusiasm and talent in the Career Development Program and we are pleased to know they will continue to pursue an education in the arts,” said CAE’s Executive Director Richard Kessler.
The winners of the 2007 Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship are:
Edward R. Wiener was an artist who designed fine jewelry and had an eye for style and elegance. Mr. Wiener appreciated fine craftsmanship and was a perfectionist in overseeing the manufacture of his designs. A native New Yorker, he attended schools in New York City and graduated from James Monroe High School in 1931. Art was always a part of his life. In 1991, The Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship was established to commemorate Mr. Wiener’s life and to provide opportunities for other New Yorkers to pursue their education and, ultimately, their careers in the arts. Beginning in 2007, The Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship is being offered to participants in the Career Development Program through The Center for Arts Education because of CAE’s commitment to education, the arts and the community.
The Center for Arts Education (CAE) is a not-for-profit organization committed to restoring, stimulating, and sustaining quality arts education as an essential part of every child’s education. We create, identify, fund, and support exemplary partnerships and programs that demonstrate how the arts contribute to learning and student achievement. CAE is dedicated to influencing educational and fiscal policies that will support arts education in all of the City’s public schools. Since its founding in 1996, CAE, led by Chairman Laurie M. Tisch, has awarded nearly $40 million in private and public funding to support arts education partnerships and programs. For more information on The Center for Arts Education, visit www.cae-nyc.org.
