    SCHOLARSHIP TO SIX ASPIRING ARTISTS

    The 2007 Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship Winners Announced

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 11, 2007, New York, NY – The Center for Arts Education (CAE), the leading voice in restoring and revitalizing the arts in New York City public schools, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship Program. Six outstanding participants from CAE’s Career Development Program (CDP) will receive $3,000 toward their post-secondary education in the arts.

    The Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship recognizes outstanding participants of the Career Development Program who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts. “These six students have displayed outstanding enthusiasm and talent in the Career Development Program and we are pleased to know they will continue to pursue an education in the arts,” said CAE’s Executive Director Richard Kessler.

    The winners of the 2007 Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship are:

  • Christopher Almanzar is a senior at the Academy of Environmental Science. Christopher interned last fall at Camp Broadway where he had the opportunity to partake in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Chris will be attending SUNY New Paltz in the fall to study theater and psychology.
  • Pawel Dlugosz is a senior at Bayside High School. Pawel interned this spring at the Tribeca Film Institute where he worked on the Tribeca Film Festival catalogue and with the Institute’s database. Pawel will attend City College in the fall and plans to complete his degree in film at New York University.
  • Charlotte Foster is a Senior at Bayside High School. Charlotte interned last fall at New York Theatre Workshop in the Development Department, where she worked cultivating individual donors. Charlotte will be attending SUNY Fredonia in the fall to study theater.
  • Elvia Hernandez is a senior at Bayside High School. Elvia interned last fall at CUE Art Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides deserving artists from around the country an opportunity to exhibit their work. Elvia will be attending Parsons The New School for Design in the fall to study fine arts.
  • Rudra Melaram is a senior at Thomas Edison CTE High School. Rudra interested interned last fall at Resolution Seven, a hip and emerging production studio in the east village, where he worked on animations for the company’s website and created his own short film. He will be attending City College in the fall to study graphic design.
  • Chassey Reyes, a senior at Bayside High School. Chassey interned this spring at Silverstein Photography, where she worked maintaining the gallery’s database and helped to install exhibits. Chassey will be attending the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in the fall to study advertising and photography.
  • Edward R. Wiener was an artist who designed fine jewelry and had an eye for style and elegance. Mr. Wiener appreciated fine craftsmanship and was a perfectionist in overseeing the manufacture of his designs. A native New Yorker, he attended schools in New York City and graduated from James Monroe High School in 1931. Art was always a part of his life. In 1991, The Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship was established to commemorate Mr. Wiener’s life and to provide opportunities for other New Yorkers to pursue their education and, ultimately, their careers in the arts. Beginning in 2007, The Edward R. Wiener Arts Scholarship is being offered to participants in the Career Development Program through The Center for Arts Education because of CAE’s commitment to education, the arts and the community.
