MEETING OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

Local, State and Federal Officials Will Discuss Emerging Arts Education Policy Issues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 18, 2007, New York, NY - The Center for Arts Education (CAE), the leading voice in restoring and sustaining arts learning in New York City public schools, will host its first ever Government Affairs Breakfast on Monday, June 25, 2007, from 8-10 AM at the Lowes Regency Hotel in Manhattan.

This meeting, entitled Arts Education Matters: Building a Platform, will make a case for arts education as an important issue to New York City voters, especially parents.

Local, state and federal elected officials and key policymakers in education will learn about and discuss the current status of emerging policy issues related to providing New York City public school students the opportunity to participate in arts learning, which is proven to be an essential part of every child’s educational development. The event will feature presentations on:

  • How New York compares to other cities across the country
  • The economic impact of the arts industries in NYC
  • Where New York City is meeting state requirements for arts education and where it is falling short
  • This meeting is the first of its kind and a unique opportunity for all who attend. “Our goal is to build awareness about the urgent need for arts education in New York City public schools,” explained CAE Executive Director Richard Kessler.
