The Center for Arts Education: Decade of Progress celebrates CAE's first 10 years with the most comprehensive history of arts education in New York City public schools ever compiled.
What began as a report on the history and impact of CAE evolved into a chronicle of the movement to restore arts educationin our public schools and the many players, initiatives, policies, and events involved in that immense undertaking. Its compelling stories are told by educators, parents, students, theoreticians, and policymakers. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Schools' Chancellor Joel Klein, and UFT President Randi Weingarten among many others describe importance of and need for arts education in schools and the community. And the report looks forward as well as back: It is filled with examples of effective arts programs and tools for educators to replicate them.
The companion DVD, A Decade of Progress, narrated by award-winning actor, playwright, and former teaching artist
Anna Deveare Smith, received a Bronze Telly award and was nominated for an Ovation TV “Arts Programming Award of Excellence” for quality arts programming.
