Through the art form of theater design and video installation, parents and student participants will explore the distinction between a hero and an idol. Based on collaboratively established criteria for heroism and characteristics of heroes, participants will select, read about, discuss and report on everyday heroes. Participants will identify how their hero matches their criteria and characteristics. At each session participants will share their hero-based video and photographic images and artwork and heroic acts from everyday life. As an introduction, artist will project the PoemHunter.com website to look at hero poems to facilitate a discussion to emphasize the fact that there are heroes all around us. The residency will culminate in a video installation that forms the backdrop for the school’s Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Art show.
