David F. Chapman is a director, playwright, performer and teaching artist originally from Chicago. He has taught or guest directed at many schools and institutions including Atlantic Acting School, Youth Onstage, Keen Teens, Lookingglass Theatre, Long Island University, NYU Graduate Acting, UNC-Chapel Hill, the American International School (Vietnam), the College of Stage and Cinema (Vietnam), Phnom Penh Players (Cambodia), Szeged International School (Hungary), and Northwestern University’s National High School Institute (the “Cherubs”), where he has been on faculty since 2003. His work has been seen at the Edinburgh and Montreal Fringe Festivals, the Camden People’s Theatre and the Old Vic (London), Bailiwick Arts Center and the Swedish American Museum (Chicago), Millbrook Playhouse (Penn.), and all around New York, including 59E59, Joe’s Pub, the Abingdon, Theatre Row, FringeNYC, the Kraine, and Medicine Show Theatre. He has directed plays or workshops for NYTW, the Lark, the Civilians, Playwright’s Realm, Castillo, Reverie, Subjective, EST/Youngblood, Ars Nova, Old Vic / New Voices, and Studio 42, where he is a resident artist. Assistant directing includes work at the Public, Playwrights Horizons, LCT, Primary Stages, Chicago Shakespeare, Encores!, and MTC (Alper Directing Fellowship). He is a Drama League Fellow, a Luce Scholar, a Fulbright Scholar, and a member of DirectorsLabChicago and the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab. David is also the Director of the Core Company, the Orchard Project’s apprentice program.
