Elizabeth Herron, is originally from Kansas City, Missouri and currently resides in Harlem. Ms. Herron was a Van Lier Directing Fellow in residence at Second Stage Theatre and a member of Lincoln Center Theatre’s Directors Lab. She received her MFA from the New School and has directed disfiguration of a diva by hattie gossett for HERE Art Center and Hear the Beat/Dance the Story by Pam Patrick and Pat Hall at Dance Theatre Workshop. Ms. Herron has directed several original plays including Project 9 and Under Covers by Tyler Jason Fereira, black and blue by Matthew Kelty along with a national tour of Hair Stories by Urban Bush Women. She directed Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun at Essex College in Newark, NJ and Home by Samm-Art Williams at the H.A.D.L.E.Y Players in Harlem (Audelco Award). Ms. Herron directed Susan Lori Parks’ AS IDI AMIN LIES IN A COMA IN SAUDI ARABIA for The Berkshire Fringe as part of the 365 Days/365 Plays commission. She directed 'for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf' and Blues for an Alabama Sky at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. While at UK she taught and conducted a workshop series that explored Hip Hop Theater. Ms. Herron worked with Jazz Composer, Craig Harris on a contemporary adaptation of God’s Trombones which premiered at the World Famous Apollo Theater in December of 07’ and was presented at Teatro Manzoni in Milan, Italy. Ms. Herron is currently working with Music and Performance Artists Chanda Rule and Somi on a performance work titled Listening to Roots and Voicing Branches. She is a teaching artist for The Apollo Theater, Lincoln Center Theatre and Lincoln Center Institute. Ms. Herron welcomes and is looking forward to further adventures in American Theatre and abroad.
