Kim Johnson

Kim Johnson Kim Johnson has been teaching for over 25 years, and is thrilled to now join The Center for Arts Education. Currently, she is also a teaching artist for Henry Street Settlement/ Abrons Arts Center, and teaches dance and musical theater on Saturdays at The Bronx House. She has a BA in Theater from Northwestern University, and has worked professionally in regional and stock theaters around the country, as well as on Off and Off Off Broadway performing, directing and choreographing. For nine years, she was the Artistic Director of ARTISTS IN SEARCH OF ..., a small performing arts company based in Manhattan, teaching and facilitating the work of young emerging performing artists. For several summers, she was the Director of Performing Arts at the Horace Mann Day Camp in the Bronx, and taught Musical Theater in the Summer-on-the-Hill Saturday program also at the Horace Mann School. For many years, she was a teaching artist teaching theater and dance in residencies in various NYC public schools for the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), and taught ballet and modern jazz dance in the New Horizons After-School program at P.S. 81 in the Bronx, as well as directed their Spring Student Musical Revue. She studied dance extensively as a merit scholarship student at the Alvin Ailey School and danced with their Repertory Company. She also studied ballet with the great Alfredo Corvino, was on merit scholarship at the Gus Giordano School in Chicago, and San Francisco Dance Spectrum. She currently lives in Riverdale and is the proud mother of a beautiful 13 year old daughter.
