Maya Turner Singh

Maya Turner SinghMaya Turner Singh has been a teaching artist and theatre practitioner in New York City since 2005. She has worked with several prominent educational theatre organizations including The New Victory Theater, TADA! Youth Theater, and the MCC Theater Youth Company. Maya is one of four core members of Global Empowerment Theatre (GETheatre), a non-profit organization providing literacy through theatre workshops to under-served youth in East Africa and India. In 2007, Maya had the privilege of partnering with The Parikrma Humanity Foundation in Bangalore, India (a non-profit school for slum children and orphans) to provide a six-week drama workshop for their students. Maya has participated in theatre projects in Puerto Rico, London, Dublin, Belfast, India, and Zanzibar. Having been fortunate to work with some of the field’s most well known practitioners, her work has been influenced by Dorothy Heathcote, Cecily O’Neill, Chrissy Poulter, Deborah Hunt and Philip Taylor. Maya has also spent time in the classroom teaching both first and fourth grades at The Learning Project Elementary School in Boston, MA. Maya holds degrees from the Eugene Lang College at The New School in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Theatre and a Masters in Educational Theatre from The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development at New York University.
