Melisa Christensen

Melisa ChristensenMelisa Christensen received a Masters in Art and Design Education from Pratt Institute. She is passionate about the arts and facilitating children and young adults to explore, invent and discover. She is the founder of Kookaburra Art & Invention classes in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn; here she teaches sculpture for children ages 3-9. She has also developed and taught courses at the Berkeley Carroll School’s CAP program ranging from cardboard furniture design and maze construction to sculpture, drawing, painting and paper making. Melisa also leads courses in contemporary art exploration in Chelsea galleries for middle and high school students. She encourages students to bring their own experiences and prior knowledge into the art studio and gallery. Melisa believes this is critical for engaging students and creating meaningful art.

Melisa’s own work includes stop-motion films, digital illustration and fiber arts. Her other artistic interests include papier-mâché sculpture, welding, ceramics, SLR and Polaroid photography, writing poetry, science experiments, hiking, nature exploration, camping, biking, long boarding, scuba diving, frisbee, sewing, and cooking (making ravioli and ginger ale).
