Paul Thompson

Paul ThompsonPaul Thompson, choreographer and teacher, received a BFA from Purchase College, and the President's Award for his dance-theater pieces, Faust and Moby Dick. He was a member of the David Gordon Pick Up Co. and performed in Philip Glass' The Photographer. In 1986, he formed Troop Three Dance Co., with professionals and students, and presented his evening length dance-theater piece, Frantic Romanticism, to much critical acclaim. In 1987 he created Terminal Triptych, a site-specific work for Grand Central Terminal, which was broadcast on PBS. In 1989 he was honored by the Dept. of Education and the White House Presidential Scholars as a Distinguished Teacher. While an Assistant Professor in Minnesota, he choreographed Scanibbean, which compared and contrasted Caribbean and Scandinavian immigrant experiences and culture. In 1998 Mr. Thompson performed in the world premiere of Philip Glass’ and Robert Wilson’s Monsters of Grace. While in graduate school at UCLA, he and Sen Hea Ha created The Relativity of Reciprocity, a dance-theater duet (performed in L.A., and at La Mama ETC in NYC), that conflated the aesthetic, political and personal experiences of a Korean and an American. Recently he has been working in the theater, choreographing productions of As You Like It, The Line of Least Existence, and On The Verge. He is also a Teaching Artist for Lincoln Center Institute and the Joyce Theater, and teaches communication skills to Doctors from all over the world.
